Refund policy

We want you to love what you take home from us — whether it's ink, jewelry, or gear. Here's exactly how returns, refunds, and retainers work.

Merchandise (apparel & gear)

Return unworn, unwashed merchandise in original condition within 30 days of delivery (online orders) or purchase (in-store) for a full refund to your original payment method or store credit — your choice. In-store purchases can be exchanged at the counter at any ATS studio. For online orders, email orders@americantattoosociety.comwith your order number and we'll send return instructions.

Refunds are issued within 5–10 business days of us receiving and inspecting your return. Original shipping charges are non-refundable, and return shipping is at your expense — unless the return is our mistake (see below).

Body jewelry — final sale

For health and hygiene reasons, all body jewelry is final sale once the package is opened, no exceptions. This protects every client we pierce. Unopened jewelry in original sealed packaging may be returned within 30 days.

Aftercare products

Unopened aftercare products may be returned within 30 days. Opened or used products are final sale.

Gift cards

Gift cards are non-refundable and not redeemable for cash except where required by law.

Damaged, defective, or wrong item?

That's on us. Email orders@americantattoosociety.comwithin 7 days of delivery with a photo and your order number — we'll replace the item or refund you in full, including shipping, and cover the return if we need the item back.

Tattoo & piercing retainers

Retainers hold your appointment and compensate your artist's reserved time, and they apply toward the final price of your tattoo. Retainers are never refunded. If you cancel or reschedule with at least 24 hours' notice, your retainer transfers to your rescheduled appointment. With less than 24 hours' notice — or a no-show — the retainer is forfeited and a new retainer is required to rebook. If the conflict is military duty or work-related, contact us as soon as you know; we'll work with you.

Tattoo & piercing services

Tattoo and piercing services are non-refundable. If you have any concern about your tattoo or piercing — color loss, a line that didn't heal right, anything — contact your studio. Your artist and our team will inspect the work in person and make it right. Your satisfaction with your ink is not negotiable to us.
